At the beginning of the year, I set a few goals for myself. Now that we’re coming up on the 5th month, I figure it’s as good of a time as any to check in and see where I am.
First: The Travelers Alliance series. Of course, I had finished up The Girl Between The Worlds last year, and sent it through betas, as well as editing it until it was perfect, right? Well, I started out the year with the goal of querying and, hopefully, finding an agent. After sending out ten query letters, that took a bit of a back seat when I decided some things needed to change.
Like any author trying to procrastinate querying, I was wrong. After editing and sending back out to betas, as well as a new set of readers, the original version was unanimously preferred.
Couple that with having taken a few query letter courses, I am now feeling a lot more confident in both my manuscript and the query letter supporting it. I still have a few more steps to take, but I should be full-on querying in a month or so, and much better equipped to do so.
While I did start the first few pages of The Boy Outside of Time (The Travelers Alliance Book 2) last year, I halted work on it almost immediately, as it’s been recommended by editors and publishers not to continue writing any books in a series until it’s picked up, and the publisher determines whether they want changes to the story (which may or may not affect other books). So that’s been on hold. But I promise that as soon as I get the green light, I’ll be churning that one out! It’s already planned out, and the story is very clear in my head.
Second: Broken Guardians. I really was hoping to be a lot further along with this book than I currently am. The Girl Between The Worlds went so much quicker. However, with everything happening in the world today, there was bound to be some fallout, right? I haven’t had much time to work on this book other than my Monday Shut Up & Write sessions.
However, as of this past week, I finally have all of the scenes planned out and I’m absolutely ready to start writing! I’m hoping that I’m still on schedule to finish the first draft before the end of the year. I guess it depends on a lot of other factors.
How about my lovely readers? Did you set any goals this year? How are things coming along with them?
