About Harlan

She/Her/They/Them
Stay-at-home Time-Traveler • Inklings Guild Wrangler • Highlights Foundation Porcupine • Chronically Ill • Autistic with ADHD and Anxiety • Bi & Ace Flux

Sometimes, in order to find growth, we must move backwards.

I’ve always clung to anything creative, whether it was drawing; writing stories, songs and poems; or singing and playing music (too many instruments to name). Pushed toward art my entire childhood, I opted for a career in digital design & development.

While being a designer was rewarding, my favorite part was solving problems and telling a story. And later in life I realized that the output was wrong. I was missing something, and I discovered I needed to put more emphasis on the telling stories part of the equation.

I’ve always been fascinated with the idea that there is “something more” and I love coming up with stories that reshape how we see the world. Science Fiction and Fantasy are my wheelhouse and combining them just clicks.

In the hours in which I’m not writing, I’ve been known to get lost in a book, explore dopamine highs with fashion and makeup, draw, paint, letter, sew, write and play music, host movie and game nights, explore new foods, and travel. You’ll often find me hanging out with other writers at the Highlights Foundation in Milanville, PA— I also serve Highlights Foundation as an online monitor and retreat assistant.

My husband says that if I put my mind to something, he knows I’ll accomplish it. I don’t let anything get in my way, whether it’s my neurodivergence, chronic illness and pain, or any other potential barrier. I’m not just dedicated; I’m tenacious.
